Dr. iur. WANG Jen-huong, Chairman
Research, Development and Evaluation Commission, Executive Yuan
Dear Friends on the InternetĄG
Welcome to the "Government and Public Service Pavilion" of the "Pavilion of Taiwan, the Republic of China" at the Internet 1996 World Exposition.
In order to encourage government agencies at all levels to keep up with the trend towards the use of advanced information and communications technologies and make use of the Internet to provide more convenient public services, in February 1995 the Research, Devlopment and Evaluation Commission (RDEC) of the Executive Yuan began assisting agencies to establish service addresses on the Internet in accordance with the R.O.C.'s " Administrative Reform Program" and "Essentials for the Implementation of the Administrative Agency Electronic Information Locator." In addition, in November of the same year the RDEC set up the " Government Service Electronic Window" in order to provide a "unified gateway" for public queries concerning government information. In order to facilitate carrying out the R.O.C.'s " National Information and Infrastructure Program" (the RDEC is responsible for convening the "Administrative Management and Public Service Automation Task Force" as part of this program) and participating in the Internet 1996 World Exposition, the RDEC has brought together the relevant agencies to complete planning and installation of the R.O.C.'s "Government and Public Service Pavilion."
The "Government and Public Service Pavilion" is divided into the three sections of "theme exhibits," "special events," and "government agencies." The theme exhibits currently include the following nine items addressing matters of concern for people in Taiwan and abroad: "About Taiwan, ROC- A Brief Introduction," " Government Service Electronic Window," " Administrative Review," " Administrative Reform," " Asia-Pacific Regional Operations Center," " Taiwan's Economic and Democratic Development," " Social Welfare and National Health Insurance," " Environmental and Ecological Protection," and " Ihla Formosa Tour- A Virtual Tour of Taiwan." The special Events section includes introductions to many of the key measures that the government will be implementing in the future. An introduction to the R.O.C.'s government agencies can be found in the " Central Government Agencies" and "Provincial, Municipal, and 23 Hsien and City Governments" sites on the WWW. The above three sections together provide a rich source of information that has been provided by the agencies involved in conjunction with the RDEC, and will be updated at regular intervals. We hope that all our friends on the Internet go ahead and browse to their heart's content.
The RDEC has also set up "feedback" and "guest book" services within the "Government and Public Service Pavilion," and welcomes everyone to leave their name and suggestions so that we can continue to improve and provide even better service in the future. Thank you.
Best wishes
