No doubt you've seen the EDGAR announcements. We had very good coverage including Marketplace ("A major development") and even USA Today and the International Herald-Tribune. The White House is taking credit for this as a change in federal policy, which is fine with me.
I'm writing to let you know that even though you're listed as a project donor that I haven't forgotton the money part. :)
The grant to me is for $409,000 over 2 years. I pay $158 to Mead, have budgeted $64,520 for equipment, $139,280 coming to me and have you budgeted for $48,000. We had quite a few wacks taken out of my original budget when they insisted that I use a university as a prime (we went from $500K to get the job done to $400 to me plus $260 in overhead, grad students, etcc...).
I remember us talking about numbers like $2K or $3K per month to you. Let me know the right number to use. I'd also like to offer as an alternative that I sink equivalent money into disk drives, MO, etc... and use that space to maintain some of the "for the world" archives that you keep.
I'm on travel for the next two weeks, but would like to come out and talk when I get back.
